To the northeast of Ethiopia, in the Afar triangle, in the middle of the desert Danakil, is the following oasis of colors: Dallol volcano.

It is the lowest altitude volcano in the world, apart from submarines. It rises about 60 meters from the salt plains of the area, but 45 m below sea level. It is also one of the hottest places in the world, with an annual average of 35ºC and temperatures above 45ºC.

The volcano is located on a 1000 m thick salt tank. The last eruption took place in 1926 and a crater of about 30 meters in diameter was formed. Today, volcanic activity takes place in several hot springs. From these springs the groundwater filled with salt leaves. These salts crystallize once evaporated, forming a landscape full of colors: green, yellow, white, red.
