Bizilabe’s young people have joined 46 science and technology professionals in the Peer Meetings

From March 23 to 26, within the Bizilabe program promoted by Elhuyar, Peer Meetings have been held in all the headquarters of the network: Abanto and Ciérvana, Bilbao, Elgoibar, Pamplona and Llodio. Through this initiative, 43 women and 3 professional men in the field of science and technology have joined 174 young people between 10 and 16 years old who participate in Bizilabe, with the aim of promoting dialogue and exchange of experiences.

During the Peer Meetings held from 23 to 26 March, science and technology professionals (43 women and 3 men) shared their career, daily work and challenges with young people. Subsequently, the young people presented to the professionals the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) projects that are being developed in the Bizilabe program.

At each table, a professional and a group of young people have come together and, through a participatory dynamic, the exchange of ideas has been promoted. The professionals have provided advice and guidance to young people, who have had the opportunity to get to know first-hand women referents in the world of science and technology. In the session, the professionals have moved from table to table to make the conversation dynamic and enriching.

Through the Peer Meetings, young people get to know first-hand the work of professionals in the field of science and technology, making visible the women referents. Young people also receive guidance on how to improve their projects and have the opportunity to reflect on future career and study opportunities.

“Through Peer Meetings, young people get to know first-hand the work of science and technology professionals.”

Bizilabea de Elgoibar was launched in October 2019 at the Machine Tool Museum and continues today at the IMH offering an activity for 5 groups.

in the 2022-2023 academic year, the Bizilabe Centres of Abanto and Ciérvana-Abanto Zierbena and Aludio were launched and since then they continue to operate with several stable groups.

in the 2025-2026 academic year, Bizilabe made the leap to Navarre with the launch of Bizilabe Iruña at the Museum of the Environment.

Bizilabe aims to be a network of centers in the Basque Country where science, emotion, initiative, community, responsibility, technology, learning and innovation converge.

The contribution to local society is intended to complement the education of young people and contribute to the competitiveness of the regions. And for this, Elhuyar proposes a model in which it is essential to put the involvement and collaboration of different agents at the service of the future of young people. This aspect is fundamental, since adolescence is a crucial period for young people, and it is also a period in which self-esteem decreases in general, especially in the case of girls, which can have a negative impact on their choices. That’s why Bizilabe wants to have a positive impact on girls and boys, offering them opportunities to empower themselves and develop their skills.
