The caterpillar is a small robot called Moccasin (Modular Observation Crawler and Sensing Technology) that serves to locate people who have been trapped after the explosion or earthquake.

The robot can circulate inside the tubes and has very sensitive microphones that can detect breathing, voice or vibrations.

Includes infrared sensors with heat changes and a camcorder. The robot offers the injured light and communication with the outside and transmits to the rescue team punctual information about their health status. Moccasin is moved by a compressed air propulsion system that can be moved within 10 cm diameter tubes. Moccasin's inventor is Edward Grant, a professor at the University of North Carolina. A new herb capable of moving not only through the pipes, but also between the waste is being designed.
