According to an important theory about the origin of life, the RNA molecule was the first molecule in life. It is believed that RNA is capable of copying itself, but in today's cells DNA and proteins are responsible for copying RNA. However, a group of biologists from the Scripps Research Institute in California have managed to create an RNA molecule capable of copying itself, a synthetic ribocin.
