The event was chaired by Arnaitz Fernández Elías and Elene Barrutia Loroño, and the awards were given by the sponsors of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka and members of Elhuyar.

The awards, divided into 8 categories, were awarded projects:

• The project “Building Cordilleras” of IES Arratia has gathered the opportunity to participate in “Science in Action”.

• The project “Do you know the plants?” of the CF Somorface in Muskiz has gathered the opportunity to participate in the exhibition “Galiciencia”.

• The “Butroetxe” project of the ikastola Lauro de Loiu has received the opportunity to attend the “Open Science Cambre” fair in Galicia.

• The project “Passengers to Mars” of Lauro de Loiu College has taken the opportunity to participate in the “Science Fair of Granada”.

• The project “Community Savings System in Sports Clubs” of the San Fidel College of Gernika has gathered the opportunity to attend the “Science in the Street” fair in Galicia.

• The project “New material with mollusc shells using the circular economy” of the ikastola Lauaxeta de Amorebieta-Etxano has included the possibility of going to the Catalan fair “Expo-recerca”.

• The “Resuscitation Doll” project of the “IES Rosalía de Castro” school in A Coruña has included the possibility of participating in the “National Sample of Portuguese Science” of Portugal.

• The project “The influence of microplastics in the cultivation of allubia plants” of the ikastola Lauro de Loiu has included the possibility of going to the Italian fair “I giovani e le scienze”.

For the good work done, 18 other groups of different levels have also received the mention of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka and stays in research centers of the network.

The Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka lasted 3 days, from 2 to 4 June, and was held in the Arenal of Bilbao. More than 200 projects have been exposed and almost 700 young people from 60 schools have participated. In addition to young people from educational centers in the Basque Country, they have been awarded at national and international fairs: There have been 7 groups.

Throughout the course, 1,450 young people (52% girls, 45% boys and 3% non-binary) and 79 schools participated. In addition to young students, the Fair also includes research centers and universities in the Basque Country. Moreover, the commitment they show annually with this project should be highlighted: at the beginning of the course, 244 researchers from universities and technological centers, among them 138 women, signed up to work with students and perform the work of evaluator of the final phase.

The Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka initiative, organised by Elhuyar, is supported by the Department of Education of the Basque Government, the Euroregion, the FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Innovation), the Kutxa Foundation, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the City Council of Bilbao.
