more than 50 young people will take part in the Vecindario leisure programme in Pamplona
Science and technology will be covered in the Neighbours leisure programme. Young people from 5th grade to 2nd grade will participate.
It is a leisure program for young people promoted by Elhuyar neighbors. With the support of the City Council of Pamplona, it takes place in the Museum of Environmental Education and aims to bring science and technology to young people. Aimed at 5th and 6th grade students and 1st and 2nd grade students, the program is understood as an extracurricular activity that takes place on Monday and Tuesday afternoons in Spanish and Basque. This year, 54 students from 24 schools have registered. there are 24 girls and 30 boys who meet the requirements to be registered or to study in Pamplona.
The visit of the members of the Plenary this afternoon was the institutional inauguration of the project that began in the last week of September. The councilors visited a room where 5th and 6th grade primary students, using different concepts of science and technology, were making jumping balls. The Councilor Delegate for Economic Promotion, European Projection, Innovation, Youth and Development Cooperation, Mikel Armendáriz Barnechea, has been able to share with the City Council the results obtained in the preliminary diagnosis made among the students of the Secondary School of the city, which were the reason for the implementation of Vecindario. The coordinator of the Elhuyar Science Unit, Garazi Andonegi Beristain, explains to the councilors what the program consists of, where it comes from and which schools are attended by young people.
Students acquire the roles of researcher and inventor in practical sessions at Víctor with the guidance of experts in science and technology. Through games and experiments, they acquire different knowledge and develop their own scientific and technological projects. The proposed activities also encourage critical thinking and the overcoming of erroneous stereotypes.
The program promotes scientific and technological experiences at an early age to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics closer to students. In addition, the program is also considered a factor of socioeconomic equality and gender, since prices are cheap and respond to public rates, and at least 40% of the total places are occupied by girls, a gender that appears very little in the so-called STEM skills.
