Assisted by Perito Moreno
If there are any known glaciers on Earth, that's Perito Moreno. The white river that takes the name of the Argentine explorer of the same name is one of the few that is not going backwards. The ice is released from the continental ice of Patagonia towards the Atlantic, and the front reaches Lake Argentino.
The average daily route is 2 meters: in winter, a little less; in summer, a little more. Without interruption, the lake progresses through Argentino and separates the main part of the lake from its southern branch. the white wall, which reaches a height of 50 and 70 meters, leaves the southern branch without exit flow. The horn continues to collect and accumulate water. The difference in water levels on both sides of the lake can reach 17 meters.
The pressure causes visible fractures. The ice cracks, and the canals appear first, then a tunnel. The tunnel eventually collapses. That's what's made Perito popular all over the world. The last demonstration of nature that leaves thousands of people speechless took place during the southern winter of 2008. It is impossible to predict when the next breakup will take place, since the breakup of Perito Moreno does not have a regular cycle.
