Devour the land
Amid the storms of tropical storm Agatha, this hole was opened in Guatemala City on the night of May 29. the hole, 20 meters in diameter and 30 meters deep, swallowed a clothing factory with 3 floors.
It seems that the rains brought by the storm have had a direct impact, but it is not yet clear how the hole has been created. Geophysicist David Monterroso of the National Disaster Coordinator has only anticipated that it is not a failure or the consequence of a seism.
Surprisingly, in 2007 a similar hole was opened a few meters away. Some experts say that karst erosion could be the cause: underground currents puncture the limestone in such cases, making it possible to easily demolish an area of land. But there are also those who blame the leaks in the underground pipe.
