The mud volcanoes
These picturesque volcanoes are located in the Buzau Mountains in southeastern Romania, near the village of Berca; you can call them volcanoes. In fact, no fire, these structures that are only a few meters high spill mud.
Mud and gas. In fact, these mud volcanoes have been created by the action of a gas reserve at a depth of 3,000 meters. As the gas emerges it pushes clay and groundwater out of the volcano’s mouth in the form of mud. The volcanic conical structure is formed as the mud that has been extracted from the subsoil dries and solidifies.
Although the gas may seem to boil because of the bubbles it creates in the mud, the mud is cold. And the dead volcanic zone. Plants hardly grow, because the water that is extracted from the subsoil is salty, and consequently the surrounding lands, and very few plants are able to grow on these salty lands.
