Iceland, hot in the cold
During the last month, images of this island have been seen everywhere. From the chaos that has affected the air circulation, the ash fog launched by the Eyjafjallajökull volcano has become famous. It is not a bad excuse to look at this island, because even in the absence of ash fog, if Iceland is spectacular enough.
Warm inside and cold outside. In the north of the Atlantic Ocean, Iceland is very close to the Arctic Circle. Glaciers, ice and snow are common elements there. And when the snow melts, many streams and rivers are formed. In Iceland there are spectacular streams, rivers, wells, lakes and waterfalls everywhere.
Many of these wells are warm water. Iceland is boiling inside. There are more than 600 hot water springs throughout the island; some with water above 150 degrees. 89% of Icelandic households are heated with hot groundwater.
The Eyjafjallajökull volcano is also a clear indicator of this indoor heat. It is one of the 35 active volcanoes in Iceland. Lava began to flow in March, and after a pause, the volcano re-ignited on April 14 to begin the launch of the famous ash fog.
