III. Microphotography in the field of Biomedicine The winners of the contest

Sergio Seoane’s photo entitled “All the days go by the sun” has won the III Microphotography in the field of Biomedicine. The competition. The competition. Dr. Seoane is a researcher in the Department of Plant Biology and Ecology of the UPV/EHU. The jury highlighted the strength of the image, the technical difficulty and the importance of the result shown. Emiliania huxleyi is an image of single-celled marine algae taken by scanning electron microscopy. These organisms are very important for the marine ecosystem because they are part of the base of the trophic chain of our seas. This particular surface morphology allows the identification of different species.
The second prize went to Cristina Marcos Arias, researcher in the Department of Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology of the UPV/EHU, for her photograph “La huella de Cándida”. This image, taken with stereoscopic microscopy, shows different species of yeast belonging to the genus Candida, with different colors and appearance.
The third prize went to Asier Ruiz, PhD in the Department of Neuroscience of the UPV/EHU, for his photograph entitled “El abrazo”. This image, obtained with confocal microscopy, shows three neurons of the cerebral cortex of rats This competition is organized by the Analytical and High Resolution Microscopy Service of Biomedicine, part of the
General Research Service of the UPV/EHU (SGIker), with the aim of disseminating the results obtained in Biomedicine in the field of optical and electronic microscopy at the UPV/EHU. Lehiaketara aurkeztutako argazki guztiak hemen ikus daitezke: http://www.ehu.es/SGIker/fotos/
