Spies of wildlife

Nick wanted to create an image that would express the essence of the lions and how we see them together; an image of the past in which the lions were not in danger. Just before the photograph was taken, this group of females attacked one of the two members of the group and sent it in front of them. Now the females were in the restroom with their puppies. They were used to the presence of Nick, who had been following the team for six months. Thanks to this he was able to get close enough. The plains of Serengeti in the background and the evening sky above. He took his picture in the infrared. In fact, the infrared “crosses dust and haze, transforms light, and transforms the current scene into something primary, almost biblical.”

This image has been named the best wildlife photo of the year in the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition organized by the Natural History Museum and BBC Worldwide. And, as every year, the contest has also brought us eleven other wonderful photographs. You have our choice on the following pages.
