Invaders or vulnerable depending on the number of chromosome headings
01/06/2011 | Elhuyar

Research at the University of Delhi reveals that the number of chromosome beams and nature of the plant are related to plants (invasive or vulnerable). The study of the genomes of 640 plant species threatened worldwide and 81 invasive plants have reached this conclusion. In fact, it is observed that in the invasive plants the tendency to polyploids (more than two beams of chromosomes) is 20% higher than the diploid (two beams of chromosomes). In the threatened plants the tendency to be polyploid is 14% lower. Likewise, it is concluded that as the number of chromosomes doubles, the tendency to become invasive in plants increases by 12%.
