Going up and down with the male goats

Stealing is an involuntary and inevitable act. And not only us, among the animals is very widespread the yawn, which is done by mammals, birds and reptiles. This means that the phenomenon appeared relatively early in animal evolution, in an ancestor of many groups of animals, and has since been maintained. It will be important, then, to yawn… but why?

It is a question that still has no answer. The only thing that is clear about egg is that there are many stimuli that cause boredom, sleep, tension, hunger...

It is curious that the human being (also the chimpanzee) is infected with the yawn. Just watch someone stealing or listening to you to start to yawn. But not always. They did an experiment to see from what age people were infected with eggs. They experimented with children from 2 to 11 years old. The children took them one by one and gave them two tests: they had to watch a video where people appeared stealing and reading or hearing a story about eggs. The study concluded that children under six years of age are not contaminated with eggs. They have found no clear reason, but they are doing it.

Theories of the Boston

The yawn is caused by numerous stimuli.

Several theories try to answer these questions. Above all, two have strength, but at least one is contradictory to the previous one. There are many other theories, but they have not been shown or are highly developed.

The most widespread theory says that when we do not breathe very deeply, or are in a room without much oxygen, little by little the oxygen in the tissues and in the blood is increasingly scarce and more abundant the CO2, and before it the body fades to solve as soon as possible the scarcity of oxygen. As for the contagious, it says it is normal that when a person begins to yawn, they also start to those around him, because they are all in the same conditions and all have lack of oxygen.

In an experiment, however, this theory was annulled: a group of people were given pure oxygen to breathe and another air rich in CO2. According to the theory, those who breathed oxygen should do less yawns and others more. But it was neither one nor the other. In addition, this theory does not explain why the yawn is contagious when watching a photo or why young children do not get contaminated.

Children under 6 years of age are not contaminated with eggs.

Another theory argues that the transition between rest and alert is a disaster, or the opposite. For example, forgetting when driving can cause you to become alert. And at the other end, an activity that does not interest us, will make us start to yawn. In this way, in addition to adapting our body to the new level of activity, the others will be informed. In this sense, one can explain why it is contagious: the man, being a gregarious animal, communicates to the members of the group his situation through the yawn to propel them also to the same level of activity. In order to synchronize the activity of all the members of the team, the contagious would be forgotten. Children under 6 years of age have not yet developed empathy, so those around them do not affect them, so they are not contaminated with eggs.

There are no arguments that oppose the last theory, it answers the questions that have been raised around the egg, but it is only a theory; more evidence and research are still necessary to reinforce this idea.
