International Donor Day

2004/06/14 Elhuyar Zientzia

Today is celebrated for the first time the International Blood Donor Day. This day we want to honor blood donors from all over the world.

The
donation is made about 80 million times a year worldwide, but it is not enough to meet local demand. Therefore, the annual donation call is extended, especially in summer, as many of the usual donors go abroad during the summer and less blood is produced.

It is no coincidence that International Donor Day was named on June 14, when Karl Landsteiner was born in 1868, Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology for the discovery of the ABO blood group system in 1930.
