From 31 July, astronomers have a new tool to analyze the universe. The powerful computer called Cosmological Machine has been installed at Durham University in England. Capable of performing 10,000 million arithmetic operations per second, it has 112 gigabytes of RAM and 7 terabytes of memory, i.e. 11,000 CD-ROM. They will use it to simulate the evolution of the universe, to remake events so far and predict futures. Scientists from Great Britain, Germany, Canada and the USA participate in this program.
