The Earth and the Sun

2009/07/07 Kortabitarte Egiguren, Irati - Elhuyar Zientzia

This image we have seen in the blog of Javier Armentia. On July 4 the Earth and the Sun were at the most distant point, the aphelion. That day we could see the Sun smaller than ever, although they probably didn't see it. We have always thought that the planets form elliptical orbits around the Sun and are very eccentric. It is not for so much.

The figure shows two images of the Sun taken in perihelion 2008 (nearest point) and in the aphelion. Also indicated in kilometers the distance from the Earth to the Sun in those two dates.
