The probe Galileo passes next to the moon Calisto

2001/05/30 Elhuyar Zientzia

The probe sent by NASA to study Jupiter has passed near one of the four great moons. The instrumentation of the probe has not failed and will send progressively to Earth the images and measurements obtained in the next two months.

The probe will use the gravity area of the Calisto moon to modify the orbit. In this way, at the beginning of August of this year, the moon Io will be analysed closely. In a previous approach the instruments failed and could not make many photos and measurements.

The sonic equipment is very specialized since it has to work in a special environment, especially because the probe is in the orbit of Jupiter and therefore receives a great radiation of the planet.
