2004/11/19 Roa Zubia, Guillermo - Elhuyar Zientzia

It is in everyone's mouth: man comes from the monkey. But what about monkeys? It is clear that chimpanzees and gorillas are not the ancestors of man. However, all three come from an ancient monkey. And now they have discovered in Catalonia the fossil of what could be the ancestor of all the monkeys. The scientists have given it the scientific name of Pierolapithecus catalaunicus. According to the dating of the fossil, the ancestor of all monkeys lived 13 million years ago. In the image we see two things: the fossil and the possible appearance of the monkey from this fossil.
