Although for many transgenesis and ecologism are opposite, some have called Enviropig : ecological transgenic pig. In fact, this type of pig, created at the Guelf University in Canada, contains genes from the bacteria E. coli and mouse in its genome, which allow it to digest between 50-75% of the phosphorus present in the feed. As a consequence, it releases the environment less phosphorus than the common pig, that is, it contaminates less.
Taking into account that pork is one of the most bred animals in the world, some experts have pointed out that Enviropig is the first transgenic animal to obtain marketing authorization, as they consider it to be very beneficial to the environment.
