Transform gold, silver and copper into magnetic
01/04/2008 | Elhuyar

An international group has managed, through a controlled chemical procedure, to convert the atoms of gold, silver and copper into magnetic. These atoms themselves are not magnetic, that is, the magnet does not attract them. This international group, led by two physics and chemistry groups from the UPV, has been led by Professor Jose Javier Saiz Garitaonandia. As the study explains, magnetism appears when material dimensions are reduced to nanometric dimensions and are surrounded by pre-selected organic molecules.
