Amaia Arranz Otaegui (University of Copenhagen) and her colleagues have discovered that 14,000 years ago, in the current area of Jordan, they made tale-shaped bread. Thus, although bread was created with agriculture, this discovery shows that bread is anterior, since these remains are 4,000 years before the beginning of agriculture.
At the site of Shubayqa, in a site of hunter-gatherers natufianos, the researchers found remains of burned food in a kind of stone kilns. After the analysis of these remains, they have been able to verify that they have a porous structure such as the stems, and that they were formed by centenarians and other roots. In addition, it has been concluded that these components were previously ground. The work has been published in PNAS magazine.
