Browsing the best ideas

How to get the most out of satellite navigation systems? This requires new ideas. Well, the best ideas have been awarded in the Galileo Masters 2005 contest. Maybe within a few years those ideas will materialize and, anyone knows, we will also become habitual.
The best idea: rental cars anywhere; the mobile phone will tell you where you have a car nearby.

They have rewarded the ideas that use the satellite navigation system. Galileo Masters 2005 is the name of the ideas contest, not by chance. In fact, the European Space Agency plans to launch a navigation system called Galileo, for which it has organized a contest of ideas.

Better idea

The main prize of the contest has been for a French company: The company Vu Log. It proposes a set of ecological cars, that is, electric cars with navigation equipment. The idea is to make all rental cars available to customers. The Galileo navigation system would control the exact location of each car, so that every time a customer needs a car within the city, both over the Internet and mobile phone, he would locate the nearest car. Also, I would know exactly where the car is.

One of the advantages of this idea is that you can catch and leave the car anywhere. It is therefore a system of rent and fast abandonment of a car.

Galileo, satellite navigation system, will be the “European GPS”.
European Space Agency

In general, because they are cars designed for short trips within the city, electric motor cars are very appropriate — every two or three days the company would charge cars — so when rewarding this idea they have also taken into account the ecological vision of the proposal.

Other ideas such as a freight transport control system have also been awarded at the event. It would be used mainly with high value goods. The goods would carry a label with which the owner would know at all times where the goods are. In this way, from the moment it occurs until it reaches the customer, it would be controlled all the way.

This system would have other uses such as waste tracking. Waste treatment companies would supposedly know where the waste works and whether it is a fraud (i.e., if the waste collection company, instead of treating the waste, deposits it in the landfill as such).

Galileo, European GPS

Galileo Masters 2005 has awarded the ideas to take advantage of the Galileo navigation system.

These ideas require a very precise navigation system. By the hand of the European Space Agency, within a few years it will be a new satellite navigation system: Galileo. It will work in parallel with the US GPS and the Russian Glonass system, indicating its position with a meter of precision.

This precision will be the main advantage, but many believe that innovation will not be precision, but ownership of the system, which will be European.

The ideas awarded in the ideas contest give us at least a hint of what we will have in the future, to see if they really take place, but we are not surprised if in a few years we use these systems in everyday life.
