Wind Dam

A few years ago maybe yes, but today see the wind turbines on the mountain does not surprise anyone. Of course, we would see what appears in the photo and ask someone what that strange gadget is and what it is for. It is a wind turbine to take advantage of wind energy.

The project, developed by the Biscayan companies Enerlim and NECESA, has been built by the Alava Ecowind promoter in the Losa de Burgos Valley, on a summit between the high Orduña and the natural park of Valderejo.

These machines are much lighter than conventional three-arm wind turbines, making them cheaper and easier to manufacture and install. In addition, the machine is fully modular, since the columns, pulleys or blades can be fragmented to facilitate their manufacture, transport and installation. The largest part to be transported and placed is 12 m and 2.5 t, so the installation of these machines does not require the construction of trucks or special roads or the use of giant cranes. In addition, 4 km away only the structure is visible. Therefore, the drivers of this system consider that the environmental impact of the wind dam is low. It is also not harmful to birds, since the maximum speed of the blades is 40 Km/h, so birds can easily avoid them.
