Cemented sand structure of Tunelkoba. Ed. Nikole Arrieta/UPV

The UPV chemicals have studied beachrocks, cemented sand formations. These unique stones bear witness to the impact of industrial development and its influence on the coast.

Although they usually originate in tropical and subtropical zones, they also exist on the coast of Biscay. The beachrocks analyzed are new structures that, located to the right of the Nerbioi-Ibaizabal estuary, have suffered an important influence of human activity. According to the researchers, they can be considered as "evidence of the Anthropocene", since they have seen that they keep casting slag of the industrial revolution.
