CERN today presented more evidence at the Moriond congress confirming that the discovery announced last July is a Higgs boson.

In his note published by the CERN he said that “after analyzing twice and a half more data than available when the discovery was announced last year, the new particle is becoming increasingly a boson”. However, they have not wanted to confirm that the particle found is the same particle postulated by the Standard Model, and they have mentioned that it can also be the lightest of the various bosons announced in other theories that go beyond the Standard Model.

Among the new data analyzed in the CMS and ATLAS experiments are the spin and parity of the particle found, and it is concluded that they coincide with the values announced for the Higgs boson: absence of spines and positive parity.

CMS spokesman Joe Incandela said that the provisional results obtained with the data set covering the entire year 2012 are “excellent” and said that “it is clear that we are facing a Higgs boson, even though we still have a long way to go until we know what type of Higgs boson is.”
