This project, financed by the European Commission, has a budget of 2 million euros for the next three years.

The European Virtual Recycling Centre (CEI) consists of 17 partners from 10 European Union countries (research centres, universities, companies and associations). In particular, the Gaiker technology center will be in charge of the secretariat of this project.

The aim of this project is to improve competition among European recycling industries. To do this, we will try to link R&D actions with the needs of each company. The ECB is the first such global project.

The importance of this new initiative is evident: The European Union annually generates 2.2 billion agricultural waste, both domestic and industrial. In addition, it should be noted that from now on the European legislation will force recycling between 50 and 90% of the waste generated.

In order to contribute to this reduction process, the IMD will assume all areas of recycling, but above all the automotive, electrical and electronic equipment, construction and demolition of waste, tires, plastics and metals.

The main objective of this innovative project is to provide all European companies working in the field of recycling with the necessary information, using the latest modern information technologies available. The ECB will try to mediate between professionals and society, between waste producers and waste pickers, between national and international institutions, until it is an essential institution in this area.

The first actions of the ECB will be the development of a list of people working in the field of recycling, the creation of a database for each sector and the creation of an efficient website. Looking ahead, the recycling industry will begin to offer high value services.
