Snapshot of electrons
Canadian and Japanese physicists have developed a technique for photographing electrons. This new technique consists of using very short laser pulses to excite electrons and, when each of them responds, its position is indicated.
Through this technique, the orbitals of atoms are represented in three dimensions. In the journal Nature, the image of a nitrogen molecule has been published, but according to the developers of this technique, it also serves to see where electrons move in intermolecular reactions.
