Endangered Wild Eidos

2003/01/28 Elhuyar Zientzia

The horse captivated the man long ago. That admiration, however, has not been enough to protect the wild equids and are now about to be lost. Therefore, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) has launched a program to protect horses, donkeys and wild zebras. This program aims to protect seven wild species: African wild donkey, Asian wild donkey, Kiang Tibet wild donkey, Przewalski horse and three zebra species: Zebra of grevy, mountain zebra and zebra of plains.

Most of these ecidos are in decline and belly, and according to researchers, the loss of these species is a loss of the ecosystem itself. Przewalski's horse and the mountain zebra in the photo are the most threatened on this list.

Przewalski's horse is already considered lost in wildlife and lives thanks to its breeding and proliferation of captives. In the case of the mountain zebra it is estimated that half of the population has been lost. In addition, in this zebra there are two subspecies that if crossed can lose genetic properties.
