Someone, reading the above, will think: We just needed that! However, according to a study conducted by the University of Toronto, teflon sartenes are very hot and, when burned, toxic compounds that last in the middle are formed.
Teflon is a fluoropolymer which, when heated, breaks down, forming, among others, trifluoroacetic acid. This acid is very inert, hardly reacts and remains long in soil and water. In addition, it produces the decomposition of tropospheric ozone.
Fluoropolymers were previously replaced by chlorofluorocarbons (CFC). These destroyed the stratospheric ozone layer, that is, the ozone of the high layers of the atmosphere. However, since the Montreal Protocol (1987), we are working on reducing the use of CFCs, replacing them with other compounds. Among them is the teflon, which seems not to be completely clean.
However, according to some experts, trifluoroacetic acid that is emitted is not sufficient to cause damage to the environment. But you, just in case, watch out for the frying pan!
