The vast majority of the European population, according to the Eurobarometer 2014, considers that science and technological innovation will have a positive effect to meet the social challenges of the next 15 years. However, this data does not correspond, at least on the same level, with the interest and knowledge that citizenship shows in matters of science and technology.

The impulse of scientific and technical culture is a decisive element in society for the development of strategies that make Euskadi an innovative society. In this task, dissemination plays a fundamental role, since it helps citizens to inform, understand, teach, promote and recognize the contribution of science to knowledge, economic progress and social welfare.

This Tuesday in Innobasque we will address the theme of “social communication of science and technology” from different perspectives. The FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology) will present the first presentation of the report of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country on the 7th Survey on Social Perception of Science and Technology (2014). In addition, answers will be given to some questions: What would be the cost of not divulging? In this context of crisis, what are the issues that really concern society? What is the role of science in these challenges? And of the scientific agents? What is the profile of the current disseminator? What are the most effective channels for reaching all audiences? How can scientific vocations be enhanced? What is the informative treatment given to science? The scientific vision of generalist or generalist news?
