Year of mammals

1988/12/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

For seekers of new animal species, the year 1988 has been that of mammals. It is not strange to find new species of animals. But they do find new mammals.

Normally the new species are small insects or birds found in the dense forests of Africa and South America. This year two new species of mammals have been found.

One of them is in Madagascar. In the jungle called Ranamafana, a group of European researchers discovered last January a golden humiliation.

Another new animal species is the primate. In this case, Scottish naturist Mike Harrisson has found a new monkey in the Christmas jungles. The hair of this monkey is gray and has a lighter spot around the neck. Males weigh about 6 kg and females about 3 kg. Long yellow-orange tail and hence its name: certopit clay ( Certopithecus solatus).
