GM soy, even in organic foods

2004/03/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

10 out of 25 organic products studied in the UK have found transgenic soy. Thus the difficulty of obtaining food without GMOs has been highlighted.

In fact, organic foods can contain up to 0.1% of genetically modified material. However, in many soybean orchards, transgenic seeds are mixed to traditional soy, 1-2%, which is sold as non-GMO soy. As a result, companies that manufacture soy flour or other soya food have difficulty obtaining soya without GMOs.

Many foods produced in the industry contain soy or some of its derivatives, and the presence of transgenic soy in foods labeled as organic could be affected by this industry.
