Our small record of 45 revolutions per minute in the guatecas of our young time, seems to soon become yours. At least that's what Philips and Sony want. They want to open a 20-minute compact disc that will be read in laser. However, they do not agree on the size of the disk.

Philips wants to use its current standard size disc (12 cm). Only a small part of this album would be recorded. However, Sony wants to boost an 8 cm disc to make the device smaller.

In recent months Philips and Sony have been in demand to address this issue. The house has forbidden workshops around the world, licensed by Philips, to manufacture a compact disc of 8 cm. According to Philips' arguments, many of the CD devices available on the market are not able to play a small disc.

For its part, Sony is making an 8 cm disc and distributing it free among disc jockey to arouse the interest of these.

Finally, they have achieved a commitment. Record companies can sell an 8 cm record. Buyers will be given a ring that will extend the diameter of the disc to 12 cm. to fit existing CD devices.

Sony, for its part, has already put the pocket box on the Japanese market. It is somewhat larger than 8 cm, works with rechargeable battery, weighs 400 grams and costs about 50,000 sts.
