The Royal Society of London has hung on the Internet a manuscript of the original version of the well-known story of Isaac Newton's apple. We have heard of this story on numerous occasions: Newton formulated the law of gravitation thanks to an apple.
This story was cited by a friend of Newton, Stukely, in the biography he wrote about it in 1752. In that biography he says that once in the garden with Newton, under a few apple trees, when he was drinking a cup of tea, he said: In a situation like this, I first came up with the concept of gravitation, while I was thinking sitting when an apple fell.
