Feast of grasshoppers

2001/01/08 Elhuyar Zientzia

Grasshoppers are insects of orthopaedic order. Long and robust rear legs, adapted to jump. Most of the time they are green or brown and males have sound organs. They are herbivores and as is well seen in photography, they sometimes cause great economic harm to farmers.

The image, taken in a US maize field, clearly shows that grasshoppers are not always as fun as they seem to us as a child. When they become pests they can cause real disasters in the fields of cultivation.
