No sugar against malaria

2003/07/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Researchers in London find another way to stop the malaria parasite. The parasite is an indispensable agent for the growth and reproduction of glucose in the blood and for obtaining glucose produces a transporting protein PfHT. Researchers at the St. George's Medical School have spent ten years looking for a way to block this protein and have finally achieved it. During the cultivation sessions, a molecule added by researchers has been able to prevent the work of the glucose transporter and kill the parasite. The researchers are very satisfied with the results of the research, as they have managed to eliminate varieties resistant to traditional medicines.
