Washington University biologists sequence the Cyanothece 51142 cyanobacteria genome and find that it has a linear chromosome. This is the first time they have found a linear chromosome in a bacterium. In general, linear chromosomes are often associated with more complex living things.
In this DNA sequence 2,700 genes were identified and, in addition, another 2,500 had the whole aspect of being genes. In addition, it was stated that 500 of them expressed proteins.
