Cannabinoids modify the brain of rat embryos

2003/05/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

The brains of rats that were under the influence of a cannabinoid in their mother's gut are not the most common. They contain less glutamate, a compound that participates in communication between nerve cells and the activity of hippocampus cells is less. This brain space participates in learning and memory processes.

Research has been conducted in Britain. Researchers have delivered a hemp compound to synthesized and fertilized rats in the laboratory. Rats have received a dose equivalent to that of a moderate smoker, so researchers believe that burning cannabis can have a similar effect on human embryos.
