Caribbean Trinidad Island is threatened by more than 3,000 varieties of cocoa. Those responsible say they will be lost if there is no subsidy. Cocoa beans do not last longer than six months and the varieties that replace them should be crossed. However, obtaining these hybrids usually requires more than ten years of work, 16 million dollars.
