Saretek, the Basque Network of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Elhuyar Foundation launched the ideas competition. The prizes corresponding to Araba and Gipuzkoa have fallen in the schools Jesús Obrero of Vitoria and El Carmelo of San Sebastián, respectively.

Among the activities of this year’s Science and Technology Week, Saretek, the Basque network of science, technology and innovation, together with the Elhuyar Foundation, has launched the ‘Nanoscope’ ideas competition for vocational and high school students. Divided into groups of up to four members, students had to imagine that they are scientists who research nanotechnology and have found an invention that benefits society. The participants had to present to the contest the mural of this invention of nanotechnology.

The mural produced by the winners explains that a "Nanozoiberg" made up of nanotubes will synthesize gasoline from carbon atoms.

The awards were presented by Enrique Ortega, Konrado Mugertza, Andrés Población and Felix Ares.

The jury has been composed of: Enrique Ortega, an expert in nanotechnology and member of the DIPC, Juan Arribas, of the Labein Foundation, Elvira González, of the Department of Education of the Basque Government and José María Rodríguez Ibabe, president of the Elhuyar Foundation.

The members of the winning team have received a PDA. In addition, the best works in each province have received as a prize an excursion for the whole class. You can choose from three walks: Visit the Miramón Science Museum and a research centre in Gipuzkoa; visit the Bilbao Maritime Museum and a research centre in Bizkaia or visit the Cathedral of Vitoria and a research centre in Alava.

The awards ceremony took place at the KutxaEspacio de la Ciencia in Miramon on 12 November at 13:00, after a visit to the Museum.
