The increasingly public human genome
The human genome was decoded by two organizations. One of the organizations was public, but the other, Celera Genomics, was a private company. Consequently, to date only the sequence of the first has been released free of charge. From now on, however, that of Celera Genomics can also be consulted at no cost on the GenBank website.
