The ice man was killed by an arrow

2001/07/27 Astobiza, Amaia

According to recent studies, the ice man died on the shoulder with an arrow.

Almost ten years ago, the Tyrolean Alps found a frozen mummy of 5,300 years. In view of the results of the research carried out at that time, the researchers thought that he died alone during the hunt. However, X-ray computed tomography has recently been used to improve the study of the body and a falsity of 2 centimeters of silex has been found.

The frozen corpus of the ice man is located in Italy, in the archaeological museum of Bolzano. On the 25th the pathologist Eduard-Vigl and the radiologist Paul Gostner offered a press conference to explain the details of the discovery. As said, the arrow crossed the left arm, damaged the nerves and could cause paralysis. Although he smashed the shoulder bone, it did not damage any vital organ, so the ice man suffered long before dying. Analyzing the path of the wound, it seems that the one who threw the arrow at the bottom of the deceased and was a little lower, standing. Anthropologist Horst Seidler, head of the research team, believes that the tissue near the wound is thicker than the nearby tissue, which is a sign of prolonged blood flow.

Next September several researchers will meet in Bolzano to participate in the international conference on ice man, and it seems that this last discovery will give much to say.
