Common Origin of Diabetes Diseases

2000/12/01 Elhuyar Zientzia Iturria: Elhuyar aldizkaria

Blindness, liver problems, and nerve alterations are common in diabetics, although diseases are different but all have a common origin. The researchers of the Albert Einstein School of New York have managed to explain the mechanism, now only need to seek remedy. When glucose is oxidized in the mitochondria, a free radical called superoxide is produced. Normal cells are able to manage small amounts of superoxide, but the cells of diabetics produce in excess and, from there, other mechanisms that cause the diseases mentioned in a beginning are launched. Therefore, if the amounts of superoxide were reduced, the chain would be cut from root.
