Bionor Trasnformación S.A. has opened in Álava the first biodiesel production plant in the Basque Country. Each year, 20,000 tons of biodiesel will be produced from used vegetable oil.

The project pursues two objectives: to value oil residues and to avoid spillage. In fact, with the new installation, the used vegetable oil is recovered and is also extracted from the feed production chain. On the other hand, farmers are offered the possibility of planting crops with oily seeds in lands they do not use. In addition, in the energy balance, a greater share of renewable energies is promoted and the energy option in the transport sector is expanded, a market that is currently dominated by gasoline and diesel.

Bionor collects oil from restaurants, factories, hospitals or kitchen companies, in addition to launching a project to collect domestic oil.

Normally, oilseeds and animal fats are unique and cause serious environmental problems. On the contrary, the use of biodiesel as raw material for its production allows to obtain an ecological fuel avoiding the problems that the oils generate in the treatment plants.

Biodiesel is a fuel equivalent to diesel, but biodegradable and with lower polluting emissions. In fact, biodiesel does not contain almost sulfur or chlorine and emits few particles by the exhaust. It significantly reduces emissions of polluting gases compared to gasoline. The CO2 emission is equivalent to zero, since the plants of the fat seeds consume in their growth cycle the same amount of CO2 emitted by biodiesel.

From a technological point of view, biodiesel is fully compatible with Diesel engines. The use of biodiesel requires no change in engines and improves your life and performance.

Bionor Transformation S.A. is formed by AZTI, EVE and the companies Ecogras and García Mendoza, responsible for the collection of oil. Together with these companies also participate entrepreneurs of the sector in the project Bionor Transformation S.A.
