Heat resistant glass

These days we have been at home with windows and shutters closed. To combat the heat we had to give up also the light of day. But it is possible that within a few years we can enjoy the light and at the same time be well fresh at home, while on the street there is a sargori. In fact, Australian engineers have synthesized glass that absorbs waves that heat the environment, i.e. infrared waves. They are not the first to do so, but it seems that their proposal is cheap and effective at the same time, since it does not remove transparency to glass.

To absorb the infrared wave, Sydney researchers have introduced polymer layers between the glass sheets. But it is not the polymer that absorbs heat, but a compound called lantano hexaboruro. The researchers have dispersed the microscopic granules of this compound into a layer of polymer with very satisfactory results. The addition of 0.02% of the weight of the layer in the granules has shown that the number of infrared waves transmitted by the layer is reduced from 70% to 5%.
