Sailboats in space

2001/07/20 Elhuyar Zientzia

As
in the sea, man wants to navigate through space. In fact, scientists have been working since the mid-1970s to turn this idea into a feasible project. NASA, ESA and the Russian Space Agency are planning technological development to meet this goal. However, the private entity The Planetary Society has taken its first steps.

Yesterday, with almost three months of delay and after several changes, they succeeded in spacing the sailboat Cosmos 1. At the end of the year they want to make an orbital flight and build in the future a sailboat that will travel through space with the force of the solar wind. The private entity has stated that the results it will obtain will be available for large space agencies to use in their projects.
