For the spiny

The environmental group Izate has launched a campaign in favor of the spiny. This species is considered vulnerable in the Basque Catalogue of Endangered Species and, if its habitat is not preserved, it would be in danger of extinction.

Peces hiruarantza (Gasterosteus aculeatus) lives only in some rivers of the CAPV, among them that of Castaños, in Barakaldo, where more works are expected. Therefore, the Izate group has asked the Provincial Council of Bizkaia to develop a management plan for this fish before it is late.

It seems that this small fish is seriously affected by the works and pollution that are carried out on the banks of the rivers, and that if the environment in which it is located is not improved or, at least, it remains as it is, there is the danger of getting lost.

Spinach is a small fish: It measures only 5-8 cm. And the worm does a very spectacular rite to attract the female, building the nest and dancing around that nest. During fertilization (between March and August) the male dresses in bright colors, with the blue body and the head and the red belly.

Undoubtedly, the conservation of the spiny habitat will contribute to improve the state of the other species that inhabit it.
