    DNA barcodes for animal cataloging
The Canadian University of Guelph has developed a technique that uses a DNA sequence to encode animals. With a simple genetic analysis, almost any animal species can be identified.
In barcodes made to date, the sequence of 650 nucleotides of mitochondrial DNA has been used, as this type of DNA evolves relatively quickly and thus species can be easily differentiated.
