Medical goats

Genzyne Transgenics, from the United States, has discovered the way in which human-generated antitrunk III substances occur naturally.

Genzyne Transgenics in the United States, in a hamlet in Massachusetts, breeds special goats for GM drugs. To create a transgenic product, scientists incorporate to the animal fetus the part of the DNA that makes in man the product they want to acquire. When the animal grows, it produces the desired human product.

Through this system, goats have created the human antitronbin III substance, which will be introduced in London to investigate some twenty healthy volunteers. This drug can replace the current protein (plasma antitronbin).
